Your graphics card, CPU, and RAM all work together to create the geometry, textures, lighting, and effects that compose one of those frames. Imagine walking into a giant city for the first time in an open world game, only for your movement to slow to a crawl. Unless you regularly patrol the outskirts of every cavern layer you've cracked (or just set cavern dwellers to 0 in the settings you mentioned) then it will eventually be a problem, just a matter of when and how.Few things hurt your immersion more than a low frame rate. Eventually went around the top one with a few squads of dwarves and managed to find and kill 853 batmen in that layer alone that were just chilling at the edges even though they could've flown over my walls at any time. Just recently abandoned a fort because I had 3 cavern layers that were building up cavern dwellers for anywhere from 5 years for the bottom cavern to around 10 for the top. If you let your fort go long enough then it will just continually spawn them every so often and have them build up their forces in little pockets around the edges until someone wanders by and reveals them. Without going into advance setting to turn off Cavern dwellers as an alternative I'm gonna try to seal off the edges of each cavern in the new world.įrom experience, that only effects how many will spawn for an 'invasion' and not how many you can have just idling around in your caverns unable/unwilling to path to you. The sealing I was referring to in this post means walling off the outer edges of the all caverns so nothing can show up, unless you create a controlled entrance for them, not a simple 3x3 wall yourself off with stairs in middle seal, that doesn't solve the fps death.Įither way I abandoned this save & deleted it. ![]() After I cleaned ~700 olm-men in the above link, my fps went from 1-6 back to 35. I ignored caverns because I didn't get migrants for many years but my FPS kept going towards single digits. Whether they are sealed off or not makes no difference as I discovered here mandatory burrows is mandatory in premium with agitated wild-life and several hundred dwellers wearing steel.
